PE overview for the week:

Monday– review expectations and play king pin

Wednesday– Vienna will be here doing a body image lesson

Friday– Fitness video and calendar lesson.  Students will be given a calendar to keep track of physical activity inside and outside of class.  They did this last term, but this term they will keep track of activities and label the activity with a fitness component.

This quarter we are focusing on our improvement on fitness goals.  We are always focusing on fitness.  We are going to kick off a FITNESS CHALLENGE.  One of the main goals at LJA is wellness for everyone.  Each class will collectively record their activities outside of class and travel across the United States.  Staff will also collectively record their activities and travel across the United States too.  Each class will compete against staff for a PRIZE!  The units that we will focus on are broom ball, basketball, lummi sticks, and tinikling.  Students will be tracking their fitness progress for their final term 3 assessment.  Plan for a FUN term!

We have started our fitness testing this week.  The girls did the Sit N Reach and the Sit-Up test.  There are a few more tests to go.  We are using these scores as a BASELINE, a beginning.  After each test the girls are setting a goal for the end of the year.  There will be one to two re-tests to see the improvement and then a FINAL post test at the end of the year.  Some of the girls set hard enough goals that it will be important for them to be stretching and doing some activity at HOME. Please encourage this.  Stretching ever night during TV time would make that time more productive!

Looking forward:  The girls will be learning about their target heart rate as a measure of INTENSITY during their cardiovascular work-outs.

Today we wrapped up Supersize ME.  We will be debriefing about the text on Thursday and playing a game.  This has been a very impactful movie to move us forward.  Supersize Me talks quite a bit about the importance of PE in schools.  Which is important for the girls to hear.  This time for students to move in invaluable to their day!

We had an amazing day today at LJA! We had a Move and Groove experience at LUNCH.  And we got some physical activity in with some dancing!

Today for PE class we watched a portion of Supersize ME.  This is an excellent documentary about the impact of fast food on our country.  It is very good.

We are also beginning to build the knowledge foundation around fitness.  We learned the Fitness Recipe F.I.T. !  Ask your child about!
